Dans son nouveau documentaire, Hubert Sauper quitte l’Afrique (la Tanzanie du Cauchemar de Darwin, le Soudan de Nous venons en amis) pour Cuba. Dans l’indigent panorama cinématographique actuel (toujours des japonaiseries, toujours des comédies avec ou sans Florence Foresti, toujours des femmes qui veulent s’émanciper, ou bien plus fortiches que les hommes, ou les deux), Epicentro s’impose, par son actualité (où en est Cuba ?) et par la richesse des matériaux culturels et historiques qu’il met en œuvre.
On peut d’abord retenir les images « à hauteur d’homme » : au cours des déambulations de la caméra à travers La Havane, le délabrement des bâtiments (rouille, humidité) est évident. Mais c’est un constat banal : les palais construits par les colons espagnols sont aujourd’hui subdivisés et peuplés par des familles modestes qui n’ont pas les moyens de les entretenir. Du moins, les quartiers centraux de La Havane sont toujours populaires (on sait ce qui arrive lorsqu’on réhabilite les centres-villes). Et on peut les opposer aux bidonvilles où s’entassent classes pauvres et même moyennes dans le reste de l’Amérique Latine, comme au bidonville de la première séquence de Soy Cuba, de Kalatozov, sous le régime de Fulgencio Battista et du parrain étasunien, avec ses baraques auxquelles on accédait par des passerelles branlantes, dans une zone inondable. Plus généralement, Sauper nous montre tous les problèmes économiques de l’île, et les conséquences de la solution trouvée pour pallier le retrait de l’URSS devenu Russie, le développement du tourisme, qui aboutit, paradoxalement, pour faire vivre la Révolution et l’indépendance, à déposséder les Cubains de zones entières de La Havane et de Cuba.

Sometimes it is child abuse or sexual harassment, but most of the time, it is a corruption of tremendous proportions.
In theory, in their own theory, it is not supposed to be this way. Listen to the conservatives, and they will tell you that they are there in order to uphold law and order, as well as the traditional culture of their countries.
But the reality is often very far from the theory.
Steve Bannon has fallen. He has fallen hard, flat on his face. But definitely not as hard, as others would fall, would they commit crimes of similar magnitude.

I went to the Old Bailey today expecting to be awed by the majesty of the law, and left revolted by the sordid administration of injustice.
There is a romance which attaches to the Old Bailey. The name of course means fortified enclosure and it occupies a millennia old footprint on the edge of London’s ancient city wall. It is the site of the medieval Newgate Prison, and formal trials have taken place at the Old Bailey for at least 500 years, numbering in the hundreds of thousands. For the majority of that time, those convicted even of minor offences of theft were taken out and executed in the alleyway outside. It is believed that hundreds, perhaps thousands, lie buried under the pavements.

If Donald Trump was genuinely against “endless wars” – as he claims to be – then he would do the decent thing and call off the persecution of Julian Assange.
The extradition trial of the Australian founder of Wikileaks resumed in London this week. In the coming weeks, Assange faces the prospect of being extradited to the US where he will be prosecuted on espionage charges carrying a sentence of 175 years in prison.
The legal proceedings and charges against Assange are a sham. His vindictive detention in solitary confinement at a maximum security prison for over a year amounts to torture. Every day of his incarceration for the past 16 months has been a grotesque abuse of human rights. And this barbarity is all due to the fact that Assange’s whistleblower site Wikileaks exposed monumental war crimes committed by the American and British governments and their militaries.

A farcical show trial is currently underway to present the illusion of justice to the world, and a UN special rapporteur attests that the journalist has been subjected to torture.
Oh sorry, did I say China ? My mistake, I meant the US and UK. I get them mixed up sometimes.
No, what China did was attempt to question two reporters, Bill Birtles from the ABC and Michael Smith from the Australian Financial Review, in relation to another Australian journalist named Cheng Lei who is being held by Chinese authorities and facing a six-month detention on unknown charges. Lei was a reporter for Chinese state media outlet CGTN, but her online profiles for the network have since been deleted.

The prologue
While writing this piece I promised myself that I would not offer it to our gracious host until my previous article achieved 20000 reads. Having reached that high watermark, I am grateful to the Saker for this opportunity to share my views with such a large and knowledgeable audience and hope that the gentle reader will find this next experiment to their taste—or at least interesting.
Sometimes I write because there is a topic that catches my attention and sometimes because of a problem that I have been studying for some time. Rarely, the impulse comes from the information I receive from friends. This is one such rare occasion. In a world saturated by shallow infotainment and propaganda posing as truth, basing one’s argument on a YouTube video is a dodgy proposition at best. A video? So what? There are tens of thousands of other videos contradicting it. Yet this one is a bit special. It was sent to me by my old friend tonight. He is a highly intelligent and educated person of Serb extraction who has had strong links with Germany, who speaks German fluently and has a lot of experience studying and working in German-speaking countries.
My friend and I have been crossing rubber swords over Germany for a long time. Both of us are highly interested in and supportive of Russia in all its forms. Where we tend to differ is on the question of the principal enemy of the Slavs. While he is a staunch supporter of the Anglo-Zionist thesis, I am much more likely to blame the Vatican and Germans for most of the ills of today’s Europe. Truth as always is probably somewhere in the middle although it is difficult to fathom how anyone could have a soft spot for a nation whose history is more or less circumscribed by its attempts to conquer, destroy, convert and Germanise Slav lands. But then, he’d say—why are you defending the bloody British imperial rule and meddling? I’m not—it is just that that I wish to shed light on the last historical taboo. Understanding and breaking it in my opinion will go a long way towards diverting the world from the path to Armageddon. OK, I might be biased but so what? Who isn’t? Should I stop writing because I am not perfectly fair to all sides in the conflict? Pull the other one, please.

Nous nous sommes imprimé ce papier pour le lire à l’aise. Avec 168 des 288 commentaires qu’il a suscité à cette heure, cela nous a quand même fait 99 pages A4 bien tassées. Nous ne sommes pas encore au bout et ne devrions donc pas nous permettre d’en parler…
Juste un mot pour expliquer de quoi il retourne :
La thèse de Ken Leslie est que les responsabilité conjuguées de l’Allemagne et du Vatican dans l’Holocauste des Serbes – qui dépasse de loin celui des juifs tués dans la IIe Guerre mondiale – est le dernier tabou de l’Occident, que personne ne s’est encore avisé de briser.
Sans, donc, l’avoir entièrement lu (et médité !) il est non seulement impossible mais interdit d’en parler si on ne veut pas faire preuve de la plus bête des malhonnêtetés.
Il nous semble cependant, à vue de nez, que quand il voit une Amérique « adolescente », encore insoupçonneuse de certaines tentations impérialistes, entraînée quasi malgré elle dans la guerre, qui, sans l’Allemagne et sans le Vatican… il va peut-être un peu fort. On serait tentés de lui rappeler le coup du l’USS Maine en 1898 et la création – à Cuba – de la première base militaire en terre étrangère, dont il y a aujourd’hui 900 dans le monde (voir Rosa Llorens ci-dessus), les USA n’ont peut-être pas eu vraiment besoin de conseils ni d’exemples allemands… De lui rappeler aussi qu’en 1937, Louis-Ferdinand Céline écrivait, dans Bagatelles pour un massacre, « Roosevelt veut la guerre et il l’aura »…
Mais, comme nous l’avons dit, il est prématuré de discuter quelque chose qu’on n’a pas fini de lire.
Ce que nous tenons à souligner à son propos, c’est qu’après les deux récents textes de Straight Bat dont nous avons parlé récemment (mais aussi bien d’autres), cette réflexion honore grandement le Saker, dont le site – comme The Unz Review de Ron Unz – accueille des collaborateurs de haute volée qui ne sont pas nécessairement ou pas partout sur la même longueur d’ondes que leur taulier et qui s’y expriment néanmoins en toute liberté.
Il nous semble que les Sakers en dehors de l’Amérique (France, Italie, Allemagne, etc.) devraient se mettre en devoir de traduire dans leurs langues et de transmettre, non seulement le Saker lui-même, mais ceux de ses invités dont les écrits méritent la plus large audience et des débats dignes de ce nom.
On peut parier à coup sûr que le Saker-Serbie le fera. Mais les autres ?
